A nasal deformity is any kind of abnormality in the shape of the nose. This can be due to genetics, trauma, or other factors. Common types of nasal deformities include a crooked nose, a bulbous nose, a deviated septum, and nostrils that are too wide or too narrow. Deformities like these can cause someone to feel self-conscious or interfere with their breathing.
Rhinoplasty is a type of surgery that reshapes the nose and improves its function and appearance.
The goal of a rhinoplasty is to give you a more aesthetically pleasing nose as well as to correct any functional deformity that may be present along with it. At Dr. Anjali's Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic, Visakhapatnam, in addition to cosmetic rhinoplasty, sometimes rhinoplasty is performed to repair any damage caused by an accident or injury. Understanding the anatomy of your nose is essential when we talk about rhinoplasty. The upper part of your nose is made up of bones and the lower part of your nose is cartilage. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that aims to alter the bone, cartilage, and skin either individually or in combination in order to achieve good and natural-looking outcomes.
Open Rhinoplasty: In this method, Dr. Anjali makes an incision in the columella and lifts the skin off the underlying structures just as you would open the lid of a box. This exposes the underlying nasal anatomy allowing Dr. Anjali to correct any imperfections that may be present and give you a better-looking nose! After the surgery the skin which was lifted is put back and closed with sutures leaving a nearly invisible scar.
Closed Rhinoplasty: In a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made within your nostrils and there is no external scarring. There is also restricted tissue dissection and difficult nasal visualization making this technique ideal when very minimal nasal alterations are needed.
Septoplasty: Septoplasty is a type of rhinoplasty or nose surgery that is performed to correct a deviated septum. Septoplasty is done to improve the function of the nose by straightening the septum, which will allow for better airflow and easier breathing. In some cases, septoplasty may also be combined with rhinoplasty to improve the appearance of the nose.

Dr. Anjali will generally inform the patient about the surgical technique of Rhinoplasty during a rhinoplasty consultation. After considering the unique circumstances of each patient, the procedure is determined.
Dr. Anjali of Dr. Anjali's Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic, Visakhapatnam, performs a physical examination on the patient and takes notes on their medical history, prior operations (if any), and expectations for a rhinoplasty.
Dr. Anjali ’s main priority is to ensure the patient’s safety and to help them reach their desired results.
Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery which means the patient is usually not hospitalized before or after the surgery. It can take them a few hours to recover from the surgery.
Here are the steps involved in the whole procedure:
The process usually involves administering general or local anesthesia along with intravenous sedatives. The doctor makes the best choice for each patient individually.
In the next step, Dr. Anjali makes the incisions. During the consultation, the type of surgery (open or closed) is decided. Depending on the type, an incision is made either externally or internally.
After that, Dr. Anjali reshapes the nose. The process involves one of the following: shortening or lengthening the nose; increasing or decreasing the size of your nose; widening or narrowing down your nose.
If the nose needs implants, Dr. Anjali will use the material which was decided upon during the consultation (silicone, cartilage or bone).
Widening and narrowing the nostrils is done by adding or removing cartilage or bone within them.
Septal and rib cartilage grafts are the most common method to improve the shape of the nose.
Rib cartilage can also be used. Filler injections and fat grafting may be used to smooth out wrinkles and cover up imperfections. This is done until Dr. Anjali achieves the desired shape of your nose.
A septoplasty is usually performed to straighten the nose and correct the breathing issues associated with a deviated septal cartilage. After the nose is shaped, the incisions are stitched up.
Following the procedure, the inside of the nose is filled with a gauze wick. A plaster is put on the outside of the nose.
The patient may walk within eight hours and be discharged the same day or the following morning, depending on Dr. Anjali ’s assessment of the vitals of the patient. For the first 48 hours, the patient’s movement must be restricted indoors from the bedroom to the toilet and dining room. It is not necessary to lie down continuously, though.
The dressing is changed after 48 hours and the gauze wick is then removed at that time. Dissolvable stitches do not need removal. The stitches on the columella will be removed after 5 days. The plaster must be kept for 10 to 14 days.
The nasal area and the surrounding region may exhibit a swollen appearance at first. Even the eyes of some individuals might seem puffy. Dr. Anjali assures that this is not a cause for concern since it is a standard response from the body after medical procedures. The swelling will gradually decrease over 2 weeks.
The swelling’s last stage is limited to the tip of the nose. As a result, while changes in the shape of the nose are obvious to some extent during surgery, only after the swelling has subsided can you see the final appearance, which might take 4 to 6 months in some situations.
Under the skin, blood pigments build up and cause discoloration in red, purple, or black spots on the whites of the eyes or around the nostrils. It goes away on its own after three weeks.
In some cases, Dr. Anjali may prescribe pain medications. These must be followed to the letter. The doctor will also provide special instructions for treating the wound, including taking a bath rather than showering, limiting extreme facial expressions, and avoiding strenuous exercises for at least a few days.
Routine checkups must be done at Dr. Anjali's Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic, Visakhapatnam, to ensure that the healing process is being followed and results are visible.

The following are some benefits of rhinoplasty:
At Dr. Anjali's Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic, Visakhapatnam, we take care to ensure that all of our operations happen without any risks. However, it is important to note that the cosmetic surgery procedure carries the same risk of anesthesia as any other surgery. The main complications associated with this surgery are the need for reoperation and persistent difficulties breathing. In case either of these complications occur, Dr. Anjali , who has years of experience with rhinoplasty surgery, can treat them effectively. Delayed wound healing is a complication that commonly occurs if the patient is a smoker. In this case, Dr. Anjali will treat it carefully and effectively.
If there is a risk of infection, Dr. Anjali will prescribe antibiotics to prevent and cure the infection. A hematoma (accumulation of blood) or seroma (accumulation of fluid) may occur which can be treated with simple drainage.
It is important to note that all of these complications are very rare and that not one particular patient will experience all of them. Dr. Anjali will discuss them in detail during the consultation.
