Rhinoplasty is an outpatient surgery which means the patient is usually not hospitalized before or after the surgery. It can take them a few hours to recover from the surgery.
Here are the steps involved in the whole procedure:
The process usually involves administering general or local anesthesia along with intravenous sedatives. The doctor makes the best choice for each patient individually.
In the next step, Dr. Anjali makes the incisions. During the consultation, the type of surgery (open or closed) is decided. Depending on the type, an incision is made either externally or internally.
After that, Dr. Anjali reshapes the nose. The process involves one of the following: shortening or lengthening the nose; increasing or decreasing the size of your nose; widening or narrowing down your nose.
If the nose needs implants, Dr. Anjali will use the material which was decided upon during the consultation (silicone, cartilage or bone).
Widening and narrowing the nostrils is done by adding or removing cartilage or bone within them.
Septal and rib cartilage grafts are the most common method to improve the shape of the nose.
Rib cartilage can also be used. Filler injections and fat grafting may be used to smooth out wrinkles and cover up imperfections. This is done until Dr. Anjali achieves the desired shape of your nose.
A septoplasty is usually performed to straighten the nose and correct the breathing issues associated with a deviated septal cartilage. After the nose is shaped, the incisions are stitched up.
Following the procedure, the inside of the nose is filled with a gauze wick. A plaster is put on the outside of the nose.
The patient may walk within eight hours and be discharged the same day or the following morning, depending on Dr. Anjali ’s assessment of the vitals of the patient. For the first 48 hours, the patient’s movement must be restricted indoors from the bedroom to the toilet and dining room. It is not necessary to lie down continuously, though.
The dressing is changed after 48 hours and the gauze wick is then removed at that time. Dissolvable stitches do not need removal. The stitches on the columella will be removed after 5 days. The plaster must be kept for 10 to 14 days.
The nasal area and the surrounding region may exhibit a swollen appearance at first. Even the eyes of some individuals might seem puffy. Dr. Anjali assures that this is not a cause for concern since it is a standard response from the body after medical procedures. The swelling will gradually decrease over 2 weeks.
The swelling’s last stage is limited to the tip of the nose. As a result, while changes in the shape of the nose are obvious to some extent during surgery, only after the swelling has subsided can you see the final appearance, which might take 4 to 6 months in some situations.
Under the skin, blood pigments build up and cause discoloration in red, purple, or black spots on the whites of the eyes or around the nostrils. It goes away on its own after three weeks.
In some cases, Dr. Anjali may prescribe pain medications. These must be followed to the letter.
